FootJoy’s FJ 1857 collection honors the brand’s heritage with some seriously stylish pieces

Throwback style is very on-trend right now. More and more we’re seeing accessories inspired by the 1990s, designs from the 1980s and cuts from the 1960s. Designers at FootJoy are throwing it even further back to 1857…sort of. No, FJ isn’t producing a collection of top hats and coats with tails for golf. But the company is honoring its roots dating back to 1857 when Frederick Packard started his own shoe business in Brockton, Mass., that eventually grew to the global golf brand FootJoy is today. To celebrate, the company launched the FJ 1857 collection that includes apparel and shoes for both on and off the course.

We caught up with FootJoy’s Ken LaRose, SVP of Brand Marketing, to walk through the line.

“I think that’s part of the uniqueness of FootJoy that we’ve got over 100 years of history to fall back upon but every single day we are innovating and looking for ways to improve performance on the golf course and off the golf course with our footwear, apparel and glove line,” LaRose said. “With 1857 we’re just providing that in a more elevated package for the most discerning golf customer that wants luxury golf performance.”

The price point on this line is noticeably on the higher side—shirts start at $125, outerwear at $325 and golf shoes at $750.

One of LaRose’s favorites is the white Shield Tip Golf Shoe with a rich all over white scotch grain material. It’s an iconic looking shoe with a quality construction made to perform and endure.

LaRose explained that the process for creating the footwear in the FJ 1857 is one that hasn’t changed much in the last 160 years. It’s a 150-step process that starts with a strict leather selection process to ensure only the finest materials are used. The raw leather materials are then transformed into the shoe upper, a process largely done by hand. The process continues to shape the shoe and build the sole. For an extra luxe touch, the shoes will be available in alpha numeric sizes. That means there will be six different width options to ensure a precise fit.

“It’s really fun when you have the opportunity to build a collection and just seek out the very best without compromise,” LaRose said. “In terms of shoes and the constructions, we sought out the very best artisan shoemakers in the world that are making shoes by hand, where shoe construction remains an art form.”

The shoes shine in this collection, but the apparel stands out as well. The line includes cotton shirts for both on and off the course, cashmere sweaters, layering pieces, outerwear, wool trousers and a premium golf glove.

LaRose’s favorite apparel pieces are the knits and golf shirts because of their construction using supima cotton.

“I love the golf shirts just because the material is so soft and it takes colors well,” LaRose said. “The characteristic of supima that makes it unique is it has extra long fibers, which when they are woven together, it gives it additional strength, durability, it has a super soft feel, in the color retention in terms of the saturation of the color, it is very vibrant.”

He also raved about the cashmere sweaters that will be a sure hit as temperatures continue to drop. While you might not initially think to break out your finest cashmere for a round of golf, it is actually a natural performance fabric. Cashmere has a natural ability to regulate body temperatures and wick away moisture.

The line is versatile in it’s cashmere offerings with crewnecks, v-necks, cardigans, vests and a hoodie. Prices range from $325-$395.

“On the apparel side, we look for materials that were from the absolute finest mills in the world and just went and found them,” LaRose said. “It’s really fun to bring that sort of collection to the market.”

The layering pieces have a more athletic styling with pops of red on the zipper that add personality to the primarily navy jackets. The Double Layer Full-Zip Vest and Mid Layer jacket add a surprising amount of warmth from such a lightweight construction.

On the off-the-course side, the navy Quilted Stretch Woven Jacket is as functional as it is stylish. With more pockets than you can fill, a two-way zipper placket and a durable storm flap, this jacket will take you through the fall looking dapper and protected from the elements.

The line also includes a collection of off-the-course shoes that are sure to impress.

“On the off the course side, with styles like the double monk strap, I think is a nice forward progression for our brand in terms of our style,” LaRose said. “That’s a popular style in the marketplace and an authentic heritage style that fits in really well with this collection.”

The Double Monk Strap dress shoes are made with Italian calfskin leather uppers that look and feel luxurious. Offered in a rich cognac and a regal navy colorway, these shoes will make a statement.

The casual shoe offerings in this line also include a collection of wing tip suede dress shoes that have all the flair and personality you could want, backed up by top-notch construction.

The collection is available now at www.fj1857.com.

Only Bill Murray could make a bowling shirt perfect for golf

It is safe to say that over the years, Bill Murray has become a golf style icon in his own right. His AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am outfits have become one of the most exciting parts of the tournament and it seems like every time Murray tees it up, he is wearing something more outrageous than the last. While you might not have the single-digit handicap or double-digit Golden Globe nominations necessary to pull off such boisterous looks, like Murray does, the William Murray Golf line is a great middle ground. Bill and his brothers created an apparel line in 2016 to celebrate the best Murray-isms and lighten up the golf apparel world.

To celebrate Bill’s 68th birthday, the brand is releasing a new shirt that is an ode to the 1979 comedy Kingpin. The Big Earner Golf Shirt ($82) is covered with dark blue bowling balls, some featuring a rose à la “Big Ern’s” good luck ball.

Murray wore the design in the form of bell-bottom pants at the 2018 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and he liked the design so much, the brand decided it needed to make it an exclusive item for a polo, says William Murray Golf president and co-founder Brandon Barrett.

As with most shirts in the collection, it’s got UPF 50+ and wrinkle resistant fabric that is ultra moisture wicking. The four-way stretch jersey knit is soft and comfortable, so you can actually play golf in this shirt.

In describing the shirt, the William Murray website truly said it best, “Pour up a Tanqueray and Tab because this latest offering really is a gravy train with biscuit wheels.”

Items from the William Murray line are known to sold out fast, so we’re giving away one shirt here.

For Golf Shot Virtuoso Josh Kelley, Viral Success Starts With A Little Help From His Friends

Golf Digest has partnered with Jim Beam Black® to tell the story of groups of friends whose bond has fueled their success, whether through friendly competition or long-term support. Here these crews share the everyday moments that built their connection, and the experiences that have made them more like family.

DO NOT SHARE THIS ARTICLE WITH ANYONE UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE

What’s the craziest thing I can do with a golf club?

That’s not something that many people ask themselves, but the quest to answer that question has turned Josh Kelley into a viral sensation.  Kelley’s Holeinonetrickshots channel, in which he seeks to surpass himself with each stunt, has become a must-watch for thrill seekers and golf lovers alike. He’s amassed almost 300K followers across Instagram and Facebook in the two and a half years since he fully committed to the trick shot game, and his fan base and sponsorships are growing rapidly every month. His trick to kick off New Years Eve 2017 has been viewed 5 million times, and counting.

Kelley has used darts, a champagne bottle, a stacked Jenga tower, a birthday cake, and his wife (not all at once) in various stunts over the years, and he continually aims to up the ante on his creativity. He couldn’t do that without the support of his inner circle or the friendly competition that drives them to outperform one another. We sat down with the rising social star, and a few of his closest friends, to hear how together they mastered the art of the viral video.

Josh Kelley, trick shot artist and golfer
I was always known among my friends as they guy who did the trick shots, the guy who hit the ball up and kicked it off his foot. I wasn’t doing the crazy stuff I’m doing now, but even back then they thought ‘Wow, that’s really cool.’

Chris Mchmahan, friend from high school
When he did his first video for some contest, out of 30 or 40 entries — it was clearly the best one. One of our buddies shot it and there was something that told us he was a little more talented than the average guy.

JOSH
Early on, it was me thinking of the craziest things I could do, with my wife helping me. I came up with this trick where she was holding a champagne bottle and I popped the top off with a golf ball and it went viral. And from there I was like, let’s keep trying to push the envelope.

Me and Ryan (Rustand, who has his own Coach Rusty trick shots channel) started our trick shot channels around the same time and he actually slid into my DMs. He said ‘Hey man we’re doing similar stuff, I would love to collaborate’ and since then, we have become best of friends. We work together now and talk almost everyday, seeing how we can push this to the next level. He’s been instrumental to what I’m doing.

Ryan Rustand, golf instructor and fellow trick short artist
When I saw Josh’s videos at first, the things he was doing were so creative. And he was similar to me—everything he was doing was all in the name of creativity and whatever you could do to be different and stand out. He had tricks I had never seen before that inspired me to push the envelope even further.

JOSH
We’re really good friends, so we want each other to do well, but we also want ourselves to each do a little bit better. So if he came out with a video that went viral and was reposted all over the place, it would motivate me to come out with something even better and kind of one-up him a little bit, and vice versa. That friendly competition has been a huge part of where I am today.

We celebrate big days like birthdays, but we also celebrate everyday moments. Even when we play golf together, when someone hits a really great shot, we’re there celebrating. And afterwards, we’ll go to the bar and talk about it and have some drinks. At the same time if someone hits a really bad shot, maybe we’ll give them a little jab, maybe laugh at them a little, and still grab some drinks. It’s those everyday moments that keep us all going and make it all worth it.

It’s been a lot of my own creative thoughts, but at the same time, I’ve had a lot of family and friends helping me out. My wife would help me record, Jake and Chris would record videos with me as well, so I was pulling in a bunch of different resources and had a lot of people believing in me. I mean this is family – Chris was in my wedding, I met Jake on a golf course in 2007 and now he’s married to my sister!

Jake Samuels, brother-in-law
I am married to his sister. And this guy has always been someone who’s talented, who goes above and beyond and is just a really great, easy guy who’s there for the good stuff and the hard stuff.

JOSH
I think happiness and love are the two biggest things for me. I have a wife and son who provide me with unlimited happiness. I consider my friends part of my family, we are super open with each other. And long term, I don’t have a goal for Holeinone per se, but I just want to keep growing, keep inspiring people, and see where this takes me.

Ryder Cup 2018: The coolest Ryder Cup-related gear you can buy without going to Paris

As the Ryder Cup approaches and excitement levels rise, so does the amount of gear becoming available to celebrate the event. From hats to jackets to shoes, the possibilities for Ryder Cup-related items are endless. While the products are ultra-patriotic, most can also be worn or used year-round both on and off the golf course—like the Weatherman Ryder Cup umbrellas or the Club Glove luggage. There are even a few cool pieces that support Team Europe, if that is who you are rooting for in Paris. Check out the best of the best 2018 Ryder Cup gear available.

The colorway is ultra stylish and the embellishments are subtle enough so that the cap can be worn year round. The navy Ryder Cup USA 59fifty Fitted ($37) and scarlet Ryder Cup Official USA Captain 9Twenty Adjustable ($28) hats follow suit. Both caps have an IceSkin sweatband that keeps you cool in extreme heat.

The most overt Ryder Cup styles from the New Era collection are the Ryder Cup USA Knit ($26) and white Ryder Cup USA Practice 39Thirty Stretch Fit ($32) caps. The latter is part of the company’s performance line with Hex Tech Performance Fabric, UV protection and anti-microbial properties that are great for golf.

The brand also released a Ryder Cup version of its popular Suede G street-shoe-inspired golf shoe. This time around you can choose whether your footwear will support Team USA or Team Europe. The Team USA version ($120) has a dark navy suede base with red details and a fun red, white and blue camo-esque sole. The Team Europe shoe ($120) has the same base but with yellow features instead of red. Ryder Cup 2018: Here’s what the U.S. team will wear in Paris (and where to buy each piece)

Outfitting an entire team of golfers for an international event can be tricky. Not knowing who will make the 2018 Ryder Cup Team and what silhouettes to cater to makes things even more difficult. Willing to accept the challenge for the USA Ryder Cup uniforms, Ralph Lauren curated a patriotic and classic collection that will look good on every player. The U.S. team will show up to Le Golf National wearing white pants for the first days of the competition, Friday and Sunday. The Saturday look includes a high-fashion pinstripe pant that will be a must-see. As always, unpredictable forecasts make layering a necessity. The designers at Ralph Lauren made sure to create thoughtful pieces that not just match but enhance each look. Each item in the Ralph Lauren Ryder Cup Team Collection is versatile, stylish and performance-ready. Check out what the team will be wearing in Paris and where to buy each piece.

Friday

The team will start the week off in stripes and this Ralph Lauren Ryder Cup Team Collection golf shirt has pulled out all the patriotic stops. It’s got the Ryder Cup logo in front, an American flag on the sleeve, “USA” printed on the collar and a contrasting red packet. As if that wasn’t enough, there is a rubber printed message on the collar stand so that if any of the team members lift their collar the message “United We Stand” will be visible below the striped tipping border. The details truly hit this top home and are able to shine when paired with simple white pants. If the temperatures drop, the players have a simple Micro Fleece Vest to wear that will not detract from the busy golf shirt. The navy vest is adorned with red zippers that strategically pop in the outfit.

Saturday

The pinstripe pants on Saturday are sure to be a hot topic of discussion. Justin Thomas has worn the pattern before and Phil Mickelson is no stranger to corporate-inspired golf attire, but it will be a new look for players like Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson, who usually have a more athletic style. While pinstripes might seem like a very Wall Street look, don’t forget that the design has been around the sports world for years via baseball uniforms. Whether these stripes are inspired by the national pastime, meant to send a message that the U.S. team means business or just were put in play to act as a stylish distraction, we’re excited to see the trousers on Day 2.

When working with patterned pants, it’s always smart to keep pairing simple. The white lightweight stretch pique golf shirt with a navy collar and placket is a perfect match for these pants. The accents match the base color of the bottoms for a thoughtful head-to-toe look.

Sunday

At first glance, Team USA’s Sunday outfit looks the simplest—a classic navy golf shirt over white pants. It’s a clean look that is always in style, but this is the Ryder Cup so it needs a little extra excitement. Upon closer inspection, the shirt features debossed stars in a thick stripe arrangement. The stars give the shirt a slightly reflective touch, while the red inner-placket brightens it up. Like the Day 1 shirt, it has “United We Stand” underneath the ribbed collar at the back of the neck and signature buttons on the three-button packet.

The Technical Jersey Pullover has that same plain-until-you-look-closer effect with a subtle navy camo pattern. The cool part about this pattern is that the camo is modeled after elements of the golf course to look unlike any jacket you have in your closet.

Malbon Golf and Puma team up on a retro-cool collection

Since opening in 2017, Malbon Golf has been making big waves in golf. The skate-culture inspired golf shop on the trendy Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles has become a hangout for both professional golfers and Hollywood celebrities alike. Hats, gloves, apparel and other accessories with the company’s “Buckets” logo—a golf ball with a hat on—have been selling out almost instantly. It seems like every brand wants to collaborate with Malbon Golf, from ECCO shoes to Jones Golf Bags to Dormie Workshop, and the Malbon touch ups the cool factor on just about everything. The latest collaboration with Puma is one of the more exciting drops.

“Working with [Stephen] Malbon and his team was a natural fit from day one,” Grant Knudson, Head of Footwear & Accessories at Puma Golf, said. “This uninhibited, outside-the-box approach resulted in a collection that anyone passionate about style and golf will appreciate—it’s a perfect mix where you can stand out without making a scene.”

The eight-piece collection including both apparel and accessories in a mainly navy-and-red color theme, is available now.

The Malbon 110 Snapback Cap ($42) will likely be the most popular item in the collection. It’s got a 3D Malbon embroidered buckets logo on the front and throwback Puma text on the bill that reads “One Step Ahead With Puma, For Puma Does It The Quality Way.” This street-style hat is unlike most golf hats out there style-wise, but with the moisture wicking sweatband, it will still perform well on the course.

BUY NOW: $42

The Malbon Golf Sweater is also a top piece from the collection. The navy sweater is adorned with retro ribbed cuffs and hem to really make a statement. The poly-cotton blend is warm yet breathable and undeniably stylish.

Tiffany Pond

BUY NOW: $128

After seeing Rickie Fowler rock a Hawaiian shirt earlier this year and Phil Mickelson’s Mizzen + Main shenanigans, it’s safe to say that florals and button-ups are officially golf-appropriate attire. This Malbon Golf Shirt ($98) is on-trend with a unique touch unlike any other florals on the course. The floral and palm pattern is overlaid with that vintage Puma slogan also seen on the caps in this collection.

Tiffany Pond

BUY NOW: $98

Another piece of the collection that is sure to go fast are the Puma X Malbon Golf Crew Cut Socks ($20) that blends a variety of elements seen throughout the collection. The main print is borrowed from that floral golf shirt, and the cuffs have retro stripes similar to the golf sweater. They’re extremely comfortable with a cushioned footbed, compression arch support and moisture control built in.

BUY NOW: $20

While the majority of the line sticks with a navy, red and white coloring, the Malbon Leather Glove ($35) is the outlier. The retro brown Cabretta leather glove features the Puma X Malbon Logo in red on the tab for an edgy, throwback look. It looks like a driving glove, but with way more stretch and breathability.

BUY NOW: $35

The collection also includes a Golf Tee ($48), retro Suede G Golf Shoes ($144) and a red-and-white Stretch Belt ($34). Product is available now at Puma and at Malbon Golf, with a selection of items available at Golf Galaxy.

Coolest things at the PGA Fashion Show and Project Golf

August in the fashion world is when apparel brands preview the next year’s spring and summer collections. Golf fashion follows the same schedule, and that’s why the PGA Fashion Show is held this time each year in Las Vegas. It’s an opportunity for companies of all sizes to offer an early glimpse of what fashion is to come. This year, another trade show jumped on the golf fashion train, creating a 2-for-1 preview opportunity for 2019.

MAGIC is a leading fashion trade show held every year in Las Vegas covering all major fashion categories from men’s and women’s to footwear and children’s apparel. This year for the first time there was a section of the show dedicated to golf. Inside “Project Golf,” there were fashion brands showing their golf collections and golf brands showing their fashion offerings all next to a Topgolf Swing Suite simulator.

We scoured both show floors to find the coolest apparel items coming soon to a golf shop near you. Here’s what you need to know for the coming year.

Birds of Condor

Birds of Condor is an urban golf brand out of Australia that’s been around since 2016. You’ll notice heavy surf and music inspirations within the collections of hats, graphic tees, sweatshirts and accessories. Expect bright colors and bold graphics that’ll make you stand out on the golf course. The black “FORE” hats with multi-colored lettering will be out early next year as part of a collaboration with another new and hip company, Leus. Hats start at $36.50, towels at $16.

Leus

Leus is a towel brand that started in the surf category and is getting into golf after seeing how popular golf is among professional surfers. It’s yet another example of the action-sports industry joining the golf world. These microfiber towels are colorful and fun to really brighten up your golf bag. The waffle pattern is rough enough to clean your clubs, but has a silky quality so dirt and grass won’t stick. It doesn’t need to be washed often, just shaken out after each round. The patterns are reversible and will come in a large over-the-bag size and smaller pocket-sizes ranging from $16-$30.

Greyson

Greyson calls itself a brand “inspired with the concept of functionality, innovation and creativity.” Expect designs you won’t find anywhere else that will perform great on the golf course. The former Ralph Lauren designer who founded the sportswear brand has an eye for high-fashion activewear. On tour, Greyson works with Morgan Hoffmann, Luke Donald and Kelly Kraft. From the 2019 line, the 100-percent cashmere wolf sweater (top right, Pack Leader, $495) is sure to impress. We also love the Sequoia Joggers (bottom left, $165) with a cool black and gray wolf design.

Vessel

This handcrafted-leather company creates high-quality golf bags, luggage and backpacks that give back. For each bag purchased, Vessel gives a school backpack to a child in need. The company already has donated more than 18,000 backpacks. Known for their great men’s and women’s backpacks, they also make a killer golf bag. The white bag on display at MAGIC created lots of buzz. While most worry a white golf bag would be a disaster to keep clean, this bag is made of a microsuede synthetic leather that wipes dirt easily. The Vessel Lite Stand weighs just 3.5 pounds, has durable carbon fiber legs and is ultra rain resistant. The single strap can be converted to a double strap, and it will also be available in black camo, both starting at $295.

Chase54

Chase54 is a golf and activewear brand based in Manhattan. The collections, developed and manufactured in NYC, are innovative and thoughtfully designed. For example, every shirt has removable metal collar stays so the collar looks clean without an iron, but is machine-washable. The brand makes great shirts, pants and outerwear for men and women, but the main attraction at the PGA Show was the Terrain Pullover. The poly-spandex woven top has a topographic design that enhances the simple gray sweatshirt, a cool pullover at face value. But here’s where it gets exciting: If you shine a light on the shirt, it completely changes and the pattern becomes reflective. The design was originally made for the company’s running line to keep late-night joggers safe from cars. Now the brand is bringing the technology into golf to keep night golfers safe, too. The pullover will go for $75 and will be available in a women’s outerwear version as well.

Psycho Bunny

This out-of-the-box fashion brand got into golf about a year ago and is making a splash already. Psycho Bunny golf shirts are made with a 100-percent pima cotton that feels softer than traditional cotton, and most of the line is designed with taped shoulder seams for a cleaner fit that won’t impede your swing. The company had two booths at the MAGIC show, one in fashion and the other in golf, though most of the lines can be worn in both venues. The golf line is high-fashion with golf in mind, like a waterproof jacket with a ball-cleaner insert in the pocket, or this silky cotton golf-ball-dimple pattern shirt.

Foray Golf

This NYC-based women’s golf brand, Foray, aims to bring runway fashions to the golf course that still feel comfortable and play great. Every piece is a conversation starter on both the look and feel. Don’t be surprised if some of the pieces in the Foray collection look Dior- or Chloe-inspired. The pieces are durable, like the Framis tape placketed golf shirts. Framis tape creates a stronger bond than typical sewing, which explains why Foray used it to make a lasting shirt with a unique sheen. For 2019, they’re going fashion-forward floral in skirts, like the Floom skirt ($160).

The brand recently collaborated with 8BitBrand to create the “Gods of Golf” line of digital prints.

True Linkswear

Company officials say they’ve got the most comfortable walking shoe in golf, and they’re certainly on to something. True shoes have a lifestyle look, but will still perform on the course. The True Original has been seen on the PGA Tour sporadically with more top players discovering the brand as it grows. The full-grain leather and waterproof liner looks and feels great. The shoe is designed to have a barefoot feel with a way more stylish aesthetic. The True Original starts at $149.

The brand also just released a knit version, the first available in men’s and women’s. It’s ultra lightweight and breathable with superior traction that you can wear off the course easily.

Roka

If you haven’t discovered Roka Eyewear, you’re missing out. The wetsuit brand started designing glasses to cater to triathletes that didn’t want to sacrifice style for comfortable eye protection. Each pair has subtle ridges on the side so they stay in place no matter the movement. We tried to get them to fall off through golf swings and various other on-site tests, but they always stayed put. The Aviator Phantom is one of the most lightweight feeling pair of glasses on the market, with a slight curve for additional eye protection and comfort. The Phantom Ti starts at $260.

J.Lindeberg

While J.Lindeberg is known for making classic European-inspired, high-fashion golf apparel, the average American golfer should take a second look. Yes, they make great slim-fit pieces, but the brand is working to change the perception that that’s all it makes. The 2019 collection is full of pieces that will enhance on-course style for every golfer including golf shirts, sweaters, pants and outerwear in both simple and bold designs. The Luca Pant has a braided sewn track-pant stripe that blends street-style and golf effortlessly. Designers worked with the German raingear company Schoeller to make these pants ($195) waterproof. They’ll perform great in the rain, but they’re not simply rain pants because the lightweight design allows them to be worn in any weather.

Original Penguin

OPG is back in golf and having a lot of fun with it. As to be expected, the company’s booth was decked out with a retro-cool design similar to the pieces they feature. The arcade game was almost as cool as the hats the company launched early next year. The party penguin flat brim will go for $35, and the straw hat ribboned with the same pattern will sell for $30.

Asher Golf

Asher Golf is a company to keep an eye on. It’s making waves in the golf industry with unique golf glove designs, cool apparel and fun hats. The brand is all about providing eye-catching, premium golf accessories that won’t break the bank. The gloves are made with AA Cabretta Leather and go through extensive pressure testing to ensure patterns won’t fade. The hats are laser cut with a one-of-a-kind feel and design. Jimmy Walker recently placed a huge order on the Utah-made hats. They’re now on a limited run that is expected to sell out fast. Hats start at $24.

Movetes

Movetes is another up-and-coming women’s golf brand to watch. The collection includes stylish activewear and golf pieces you won’t find anywhere else. The Leaderboard jacket is a stylish bomber that packs a ton of warmth and stretch. It will layer effortlessly over golf clothes or pair well with leggings.

G/FORE

You can always count on G/FORE to be among the leaders in golf innovation. Whether it’s fresh footwear or cutting-edge accessories, the brand is known for being ahead of cool curve . In 2019, look for modern spread collars that reinvent the traditional golf shirt collar look, a mix of floral- and skull-patterns that surprisingly fit in golf clothes and this fun “Pray For Birdies” hooded jacket ($250) that will blow away the other light wind jackets in your closet.

Electric

Electric is another trend leader in golf. The brand consistently designs great looking eyewear that preforms and protects. The Knoxville Pro won the Golf Digest Editors’ Choice for that exact reason. One of the newest designs is a more athletic spin on the popular women’s Danger Cat sunglasses. Expect the extra-durable Grilamid frame, OHM “SPF for your eyes” Polarized Polycarbonate lens, and great clarity in a half-framed, fully-style design starting at $120.

ECCO

Ecco has been growing and shifting as a brand to consistently launch golf shoes for every style and need. In 2019, the brand is taking its most popular street shoe, the Soft 7, and transforming it into a golf shoe. After becoming the top seller at Nordstrom, the golf designers at Ecco got to work to make a weather-friendly, high-traction golf shoe that will retail at $170. Keep in mind that the brand does not make half sizes, instead the topsole is removable to customize the fit.

Another intriguing launch coming from Ecco is a golf shoe with a fabric-based sole. By removing most of the rubber from the bottom of the shoe, Ecco was able to design a Dina Knit outsole surrounded by polyurethane for more flex and lightweight. Despite it’s rubberless makeup, the outsole is waterproof. The 2019 golf shoe will retail at $160.

PGA Championship 2018: Billy Horschel debuts first Ralph Lauren golf collaboration

Billy Horschel’s iconic octopus print from the 2013 U.S. Open is back and ready to wear as part of his first design collaboration with the RLX Golf team. The stylish golfer has been an ambassador for the brand since 2011, but had yet to design his own line start-to-finish, until now.

The RLX x Billy Horschel collection will be available this fall with statement-making prints and bright pops of color that have become a definitive part of Horschel’s style over the years.

“The piece that everyone is going to talk about is the octopus pants,” Horschel said at a launch event earlier this year. “You could say that’s what brought me into the fashion scene.”

The octopus will be available on the Ralph Lauren 4 Way Stretch Printed Shorts ($97.50) and pairs nicely with simple solid golf shirts, like the Tech Piqué Woven Golf Shirt in a blue that matches part of the print and is a shade that runs through the entire line.

BUY NOW: $97.50

This isn’t a collaboration that just trades off a golfer’s name. Horschel selected the colors, fit and distinct details of each piece. His most obvious touch is the “BH” logo on the back of each knitwear piece.

“As much as I can wear something that makes a loud outfit, I also like just the basic simple outfits that you can make look good with little contrasts,” Horschel said. “I’m really into little details that make something stand out.”

BUY NOW: $198

With a navy and pink theme of the collection, the opportunities for eye-catching details were plentiful. Like the contrasting zipper on the Par Windbreaker ($198) that provides a playful pop of pink against the navy jacket, or the light blue inner-placket on the Striped Airflow Jersey Golf Shirt ($89.50) that creates a classic, lively statement.

BUY NOW: $89.50

The collection will be on display at Bellerive as part of Horschel’s scripting. He wore one of the brighter shirts from the line on Thursday, when he got off to a solid start with a two-under 68. The bright pink, navy and white striped shirt ($89.50) is stylish with a touch of old-school charm in the navy collar. Over a classic pair of white pants, he really gave the shirt the chance to shine.

The simple golf shirts in the collection are balanced by four Horschel-approved versions of the Tailored Fit 5-Pocket Tech Pants (starting at $97.50) in white, soft blue, bright pink and a fun technical-looking camo.

BUY NOW:
Bermuda Blue $97.50
Exotic Pink $97.50
Hexagon Camo $165

He’ll be wearing the Hexagon Camo Pant ($165) on Friday, pairing it with a Tech Pique shirt with woven details ($89.50)—a clean white golf shirt spiced up by a gray collar and placket.

On Saturday, Horschel will put the Bermuda Blue Pant into rotation under the Striped Airflow Golf Shirt. The bright shade of blue is summer-y when paired with a bright shirt, but can be toned down for fall golf with navy shirts or stripes.

BUY NOW: $89.50

Horschel save his favorite combination of the collection for the final round of the PGA Championship. You won’t miss his Exotic Pink Pants, but look out for the Steel Heather Knit Polo with a clean color detail that pulls the whole look together.

“Sunday is the most important outfit of the scripting because if I play well and I got a chance to win, I have to make sure I look good,” Horschel said. “I love the pink and gray, it’s just going to look great.”

BUY NOW: $165

He likely won’t be needing any layering pieces, but if the temperatures decide to dip, the collection also has a Hexagon Camo Knit quarter-zip and a short-sleeved gray jacket available.

A smaller capsule collection also will be available for women. Camo iterations will show up in a quarter-zip and skort and don’t worry, there will be an octopus print for the ladies in a skort as well.

Rickie Fowler’s Red, White and Blue looks for Shinnecock (and where to buy each piece)

Ten years ago, Rickie Fowler qualified for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines as an amateur before turning professional the following year. This year, at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course, the Fowler team is throwing it back to his amateur days by debuting a custom stand bag. The COBRA Golf & Vessel US Open Tour Stand Bag ($600) will be carried by Rickie’s caddie, Joe Skovron—who is excited for the single-strap bag that is 60 percent lighter than the typical tour bag he carries. “It’s nice to carry something a little smaller and lighter for that trek that is Shinnecock Hills,” Skovron said. A limited number of the bags will be available online and a few more in Southampton.

SHOP NOW: $600

Fowler’s looks for the week are appropriately patriotic. The 29-year-old is never afraid to show his love for our country whether it be inked into his skin, on his golf shoes, or that infamous USA onesie. While his nod to the flag isn’t always subtle, Fowler’s U.S. Open looks are understated and classic. If you’re looking to up your red, white and blue attire, you can buy any of the pieces Fowler will be wearing at Shinnecock. Check out the rundown and where to buy each piece.
